The English government has announced new strict measures that will limit access for children and teenagers under 16 to high-caffeine energy drinks. The change, which is expected to come into force in April, aims to protect the health of the younger generation from the negative effects of excessive stimulant consumption.

According to the new rules, the sale of drinks containing more than 150 mg of caffeine per liter will be prohibited in all commercial establishments – from supermarkets and cafes to vending machines and online platforms. Popular brands such as Red Bull, Monster, Relentless, and Prime fall under the new regulation. However, these restrictions will not affect standard low-caffeine soft drinks, as well as tea or coffee.

The Ministry of Health justifies the decision with the need to address rising levels of childhood obesity, as well as risks such as sleep disturbances, increased anxiety, lack of concentration, and poorer academic performance among students.

"This ban demonstrates the authorities' firm commitment to creating the healthiest generation of children," said the Minister of Public Health Sharon Hodgson.

Once the measures are finally approved by Parliament, control over them will be entrusted to local authorities. Commercial establishments caught violating the new law can be sanctioned with fines of up to 2,500 pounds.
