Increased Control Over Trucks in Sofia: 32 Drivers Sanctioned in a Single Day
The capital's police have launched a large-scale campaign to control the movement of heavy goods vehicles in Sofia. The results from the first day of intensified inspections are already known: sanctions have been imposed on 32 truck drivers.
According to Ivo Bikov from the "Traffic Police" department at the SDVR, the violations are diverse and affect various aspects of safety. Among them are the use of mobile phones while driving, incorrect maneuvers and overtaking, as well as a lack of mandatory technical inspections or irregular road documents.
One of the most serious problems noted by the police is the technical maintenance of the vehicles. Trucks with broken windshields, worn tires, or a lack of fastening elements for the cargo are often seen moving through the city streets. In some cases, the transport of uncovered cargo was also established, which increases the risk of accidents.
The police also issued an appeal to transport companies: do not pressure drivers to follow excessively strict schedules. Rushing on the road is a major factor in dangerous situations that can end in tragedy.
