Latvia has a caretaker government: Andris Kulsbergs takes office with a focus on security
The Latvian Parliament (Saeima) has officially approved the country's new caretaker government, headed by center-right deputy Andris Kulsbergs. The cabinet, supported by a four-party coalition, will perform its duties until the parliamentary elections held on October 3.
The change in government follows a series of drone incidents that led to the resignation of the previous cabinet. Upon the acceptance of the mandate, 66 out of the 96 deputies in the Saeima voted for the new government.
In his program, Prime Minister Kulsbergs prioritized issues of national security, border protection, economic stability, and energy independence. The coalition partners emphasized that Latvia will maintain its firm position in support of Ukraine and will continue measures to isolate Russia.
What this means for Bulgaria: Stability in the Baltics is of key importance for the collective security of NATO and the EU. The transitional government in Latvia is aimed at managing crisis situations (security and energy), which is an indicator of regional tension. For the Bulgarian reader, this is an indication of the ongoing consolidation of the Baltic Sea countries in their policy against Russian influence.
