Bulgaria on its way to "Michelin"? The status of audits and prestigious stars

Bulgaria is in the process of preparing for the entry of the world-renowned culinary guide "Michelin," emphasized Richard Alibegov, Chairman of the Bulgarian Association of Restaurants. In an interview with NOVA NEWS, he clarified that information regarding the potential rejection of the country by the inspectors is untrue.

According to Alibegov, the assessment process is long and structured. Following the initial preliminary audit, there are an additional four to six inspections, which can take between three and six years. "Michelin" does not refuse participation, but rather evaluates establishments – they either receive a star or are ranked in the category of recommended places. The Sofia Municipality, which is in contact with the rights holders of the guide, confirmed that the initial audit was extremely successful.

Currently, about 20 establishments in the capital have been audited, although their names remain confidential due to the municipality's contractual obligations. Alibegov explained that stars are typically awarded to small, select establishments with limited menus and few tables, as restaurant chains do not meet the criteria for such an assessment.

The introduction of "Michelin" in Bulgaria is viewed not only as culinary recognition but also as a powerful tool for tourism development. The "Michelin tourism" phenomenon attracts travelers who plan their trips specifically because of the high gastronomic culture of a given place.

In conclusion, the chairman of the association also shared an opinion on the offerings of the Black Sea coast, noting that the variety of prices and classes allows every customer to find a suitable option, with the market success of establishments being directly determined by visitor satisfaction.
