Google searches by British users for the phrase "learn Greek" have increased by 550% following the premiere of Christopher Nolan's film "Odyssey". According to data from the language learning platform Preply, cited by The Times, the number of these queries has reached approximately 6,000.

The Connection Between Cinema and Languages

Madeline Enos, a language trends expert at Preply, points out that cinema has the ability to stimulate interest in new languages by creating an emotional connection with the stories being told. According to her, the initial interest in the film title can serve as a starting point for a deeper study of Greek linguistic and cultural heritage, whether users turn to the classical language of Homer or to modern Greek.

Increased Interest in Classical Literature

The phenomenon is also reflected in the book market. Sales of Homer's "Odyssey" in British bookstores have grown by 70% this year, reaching a total of 40,000 copies. In comparison, nearly 5,000 copies were sold in the single week prior to the film's release.

On the big screen, "Odyssey" achieved significant financial success, collecting around $264 million during its opening weekend, with over $17 million of that amount generated in the UK market.
