The district administration of 'Odesos' in Varna is facing financial difficulties that threaten the maintenance and renewal of the green system in the area. According to the district mayor, Yanislava Shopova, the current budget will only be sufficient for basic maintenance activities of the green spaces until the end of the year.

The currently available funds (approximately 326,477 euros) will be directed solely towards routine tasks such as mowing and pruning. This means there will be no resources for planting new trees, nor for the removal of dangerous specimens for which relevant orders have already been issued. Currently, tree removal is only possible in emergency situations involving fallen branches or trunks.

To overcome the situation, the district administration has proposed an alternative plan to the Varna Municipality and Mayor Blagomir Kotsev. The proposal is that the planting of 436 new trees in pre-determined locations be carried out through existing municipal contracts, with the necessary funds being transferred to the district budget.

The Mayor of 'Odesos' emphasized that the choice of new tree species will take climate change into account. To ensure the sustainability of the green system, a public discussion and a round table will be organized with the participation of experts and citizens to determine the strategy for the future landscaping of the district.
