New homes for 106 dogs: Varna improves conditions at the municipal shelter
Since the beginning of 2026, the Municipal Shelter for Stray Dogs in Varna has succeeded in providing new homes for 106 animals. The result is the fruit of the joint efforts of the shelter team, volunteers, and donors, as well as a series of infrastructure improvements at the base.
During a recent visit by Mayor Blagomir Kotsev and Deputy Mayor Snezhana Apostolova, the main modernization projects were presented. One of the key steps is the creation of new fenced walking areas, which are protected from the sun through redesigned canopies providing natural shade.
To help the animals cope with extreme summer temperatures, a fine water misting system has been installed in the sheds. For the winter period, responsibility has been addressed through two powerful air conditioners provided as a donation. In parallel, the interior premises are being renovated with new flooring, making cleaning and disinfection more efficient.
"Our true goal is for every dog to find a family and a home. We thank the employees and volunteers who, with professionalism and great heart, give these animals a second chance," emphasized Mayor Blagomir Kotsev.
In addition to the infrastructure improvements, the team now has a specialized air-conditioned vehicle for transporting animals and responding to calls. Plans also include the construction of an indoor space, which will allow volunteers to spend time with the dogs even during the cold months. The municipality calls on everyone who wants to adopt a pet to consider visiting the shelter in Varna.
