Crisis at NATFIZ: Brussels sends letter regarding the Academy's exclusion from the European film alliance

The conflict at the National Academy for Theatre and Film Education (NATFIZ) has escalated to an international level. Students and a large portion of the teaching staff continue their protests, claiming that the administration of Rector Prof. Miroslav Dachev threatens the future of the institution.

According to Prof. Svetoslav Ovcharov, film director and professor at the Academy, the situation is critical. The main bone of contention is an official letter from Brussels, in which the European Alliance of Film Schools demands that NATFIZ change its status and be removed from the organization. This would mean not only the loss of significant European funds but also depriving students of opportunities for international internships and cooperation.

Protesters point out that the atmosphere in the Academy is paralyzed by administrative struggles. Faculty members who previously signaled irregularities within the Ministry of Education and Science are now being subjected to disciplinary measures under the pretext of "damaging the prestige of the institution." Prof. Ovcharov notes the paradox of how industry organizations, which should protect workers, are in this case siding with the employer.

The students, represented by Toni Penchev, emphasize that they are forced to seek support from the entire academic community in Bulgaria, as their own efforts are not sufficient. Protest actions are planned to continue through the autumn, with the goal of stopping the administrative pressure and defending the academic independence of NATFIZ.
