Weather in Bulgaria: Yellow Code for 10 Regions and Sharp Drop in Temperatures on Friday

On Friday, the weather in Bulgaria will undergo a sharp change. After a calm night, an increase in cloudiness is expected, which will lead to rain, accompanied by thunderstorms in some places. With the arrival of colder air from the north, temperatures will drop significantly.

Yellow code for dangerous meteorological phenomena
The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) has declared a yellow code for intense rainfall in the following regions: Targovishte, Razgrad, Shumen, Haskovo, Kardzhali, Smolyan, Plovdiv, Pazardzhik, Blagoevgrad, and Sofia-region. Significant amounts of rain are expected in these areas, which may lead to local flooding.

Temperature crash and regional differences
Maximum temperatures will vary between 18°C and 20°C in the western parts of the country to 26°C – 28°C in the eastern regions. In the capital, Sofia, around 19°C is forecast. Along the Black Sea coast, it will be cloudy with showers, with coastal temperatures remaining in the range of 24°C – 27°C.

Safety warnings
Experts advise citizens to exercise increased caution, as intense rainfall can cause:

    poor visibility on roads;
  • risk of aquaplaning while driving;
  • interruption of outdoor activities.

Weekend forecast
Despite the turbulent Friday, the weekend will offer better conditions. On Saturday, sunny weather with light clouds will prevail, and on Sunday, true summer warming is expected with temperatures between 30°C and 35°C.
