An extreme temperature warning is in effect for Kansas City, which will remain active until 10:00 PM on Sunday. Daytime temperatures are expected to approach 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and due to high humidity, the heat index could reach between 110 and 120 degrees during the afternoon and evening.

Safety Recommendations

According to information from KMBC, meteorologists are urging residents to limit outdoor activities and stay hydrated regularly. Seeking air-conditioned spaces is recommended, and pets should be kept indoors during the hottest hours of the day.

Forecast for Next Week

On Monday, conditions will remain similar, although increased cloudiness and isolated overnight or early morning showers may slightly lower the heat index during the afternoon. The first signs of relief are expected on Tuesday, when temperatures and humidity will begin to gradually decrease. However, the heat index on Tuesday may still vary between 100 and 105 degrees.

From Tuesday to Friday, maximum temperatures are expected to drop to the low 90s Fahrenheit, and lower humidity will make conditions more bearable. Meteorologists predict that by next weekend, temperatures could fall back into the 80s. While chances for rain and thunderstorms remain in the forecast, their exact location is uncertain, with precipitation most likely to be widespread on Thursday and Friday.
