Two complex kidney transplantation surgeries were successfully completed at UMBAL "Aleksandrovska", giving a new chance at life to two patients with chronic renal failure.

The selected recipients are a 28-year-old man from Vratsa region, who has been treated via hemodialysis for the last eight months, and a 61-year-old woman from Sofia, who has not been on dialysis treatment until now. Both patients were selected from a total of eight people on the waiting list, as they showed the highest percentage of organ compatibility with the donor.

The operations were performed by medical teams under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Vladislav Mladenov and Assoc. Prof. Plamen Dimitrov, with the assistance of vascular surgeon Dr. Asen Todorov. Currently, both patients are recovering in the hospital's Clinic of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care. According to medical data, their condition is stable, with good vital signs and normal diuresis.

The donor was a 36-year-old woman who suffered a brain hemorrhage and was declared brain dead. The hospital team expressed deep gratitude to the deceased's family for their humane decision to donate her organs, which allowed for the saving of other human lives.
