Severe Flooding and Casualties in Romanian Resorts: Streets Turned into Rivers

Severe meteorological conditions hit popular tourist destinations in Romania, turning the streets of Bușteni, Sinaia, and Poiana Țapului into raging torrents. The force of nature has caused significant damage, with two people receiving medical assistance following incidents involving flash floods.

The most serious situation is in Bușteni, where a sharp rise in the level of the Jezi stream, following intense rainfall in the Bucegi Mountains, caused the river to overflow its banks. The water carried mud, stones, and tree trunks, which even blocked the national road DN1.

According to official data, two people were injured. One sustained limb injuries, while a 33-year-old woman was caught off guard by the incoming water in Bușteni. Both were transported to the hospital, and their conditions are currently not life-threatening. Rescue teams also extracted several people who were trapped in cars amidst the flooded areas.

In Bușteni, 22 households were affected, and emergency services are working on pumping out water and clearing debris. Due to the severe situation, traffic on the DN1 road was temporarily interrupted, and some sections still have restrictions due to mud deposits.

Road infrastructure problems were also recorded on the DN71 road between Târgoviște and Sinaia, where landslides threatened the roadway. In Sinaia, on the other hand, strong winds knocked down numerous trees, which damaged parked cars.

The National Meteorological Service of Romania is maintaining orange and red code warnings for multiple areas. Forecasters predict continued rainfall (over 50-60 liters per sq.m.), winds with gusts over 90 km/h, hail, and thunderstorms.
