Political Storm in Ukraine: Protests and Conflict Between Civilian Government and Military Leadership

Ukraine is facing unprecedented political tension that threatens the country's internal stability at a critical moment of the war. For the fifth consecutive day, mass demonstrations continue, provoked by the dismissal of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov – a figure symbolizing the reform and modernization of the army.

The protests, which are the longest-lasting since the start of the Russian aggression, are directed not only against the government reshuffle but also against the current military command. The main focus of the discontent is directed toward the Commander-in-Chief of the AFU, Oleksandr Syrskyi. Fedorov's supporters accuse Syrskyi of a conservative approach and criticize his combat strategy.

The situation has escalated to the point where divisions are being observed within the army. The Deputy Commander of the Air Force has already resigned in protest against the decision to dismiss Fedorov, and senior officers are also publicly expressing their disagreement.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is attempting to balance the demands of the streets with the need for unified military leadership. According to political analysts, the President is looking for a compromise option – a figure who can bring change but remain loyal and not cause a new rift in the army. Meanwhile, the General Staff is attempting to contain rumors, including those regarding the potential resignation of Syrskyi, which are spreading rapidly.

The crisis is causing serious concern among Kyiv's Western allies, as political instability could affect the effectiveness of war management and international aid.
