A dramatic chase through the capital's streets ended with the detention of a 41-year-old man driving a vehicle in a highly impaired state. The incident occurred in the center of Sofia after the driver crashed into a car driven by a woman in the area of the National Art Gallery on Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd.

Following the collision, the driver did not stop but instead attempted to flee. The police began a pursuit that ended with the interception of the man at the intersection of Shipchenski Prohod Blvd and Mihai Eminescu Blvd, near the Romanian embassy.

Upon testing the driver, a high concentration of alcohol was found – over 3 per mille. To the media, the man displayed complete helplessness and inadequacy, attempting to justify his behavior with the words: "Nothing happened. I just had a little to drink. I was driving because it was necessary." Although he denied guilt for the accident, he experienced serious difficulty even stating his own name.

This case is the latest in a series of similar incidents over the past week. Sofia police recently detained a 45-year-old driver with 4.6 per mille in Bistritsa, as well as a 28-year-old man with 3.59 per mille who caused a chain reaction accident on Gurko St.
