Plovdiv aims to establish itself as a year-round tourism destination by relying on cultural, sporting, and business events. The topic of a recent meeting between the city's mayor Kostadin Dimitrov, his deputy Plamen Panov, and representatives of the Association of Hoteliers in Plovdiv was the development of urban tourism infrastructure and the economic benefits of large festivals.

One of the key focuses is the creation of permanent spaces for tasting local foods and wines, which would become part of the city's tourist routes. Former bomb shelters under the Plovdiv hills are being considered as potential locations, for which preliminary talks are already underway.

During the meeting, speculations regarding excessively high overnight accommodation prices during summer festivals were dismissed. The Chairman of the Association of Hoteliers, Petar Denchev, assured that pricing is fair and aligned with the quality of services. The Mayor emphasized that large-scale events such as Philgood and Hills of Rock ensure almost full hotel occupancy and provide a serious boost to the local economy. According to Dimitrov, every euro invested in cultural events brings a fourfold return to the urban economy.

In addition to cultural and gastronomic tourism, the municipality and businesses plan to increase focus on congress, business, and sports tourism. The priority list for improving the guest experience also includes issues such as the construction of buffer parking lots in the center, the development of Plovdiv Airport, and the improvement of urban transport and intercity connectivity.
