The situation in the Persian Gulf has reached a point of critical escalation. Following a series of mutual missile and drone strikes, Iran has announced that it has closed the Strait of Hormuz, which is key to global energy. Tehran justified its decision with a warning shot against the container ship "Galaxy," which flies the Cypriot flag.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that the strait will remain inaccessible to shipping until US military forces withdraw from the region. In addition to the blockade, Iranian forces undertook a series of attacks against US and allied sites in Gulf countries, including command centers in Jordan, a radar base in Kuwait, and platforms in Oman. According to authorities in Qatar, attacks in Doha caused injuries to three people, including a child.

In response to Iranian activity, US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that US forces have struck over 140 Iranian military targets over the last three nights. The goal of these strikes is to limit Iran's ability to attack commercial vessels. Despite Tehran's threats, the US command emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz remains open for navigation and that the military is prepared to guarantee the free passage of ships.

The conflict has serious economic consequences. The blockade of the strait, through which one-fifth of the world's oil and natural gas supplies pass, has already caused a surge in energy resource prices and an increase in global inflation. Qatar itself, which is a key mediator in diplomatic efforts, stated that it will not continue mediation if it remains a target of attacks.

Political tension is intensifying with statements from Iranian leaders. Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned that "the era of unilateral agreements is over," while the new supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei promised revenge for the death of his father, Ali Khamenei. Meanwhile, the US has already revoked the license for the sale of Iranian crude oil, further tightening economic sanctions against Tehran.
