Logistical Nightmare on Set: How the New 'Harry Potter' Series is Being Created

The upcoming HBO 'Harry Potter' series is facing unexpected challenges that are affecting the production quality. Although fans expect a large-scale adaptation of J.K. Rowling's series, the filming process is proving to be extremely complex due to the need to balance work and the education of the young actors.

In an interview with Variety, the project's cinematographer Adriano Goldman revealed that the schedule is highly constrained. Since the children must attend school, their time on set is minimal. "You have to shoot really fast, and the faster you shoot, the more you compromise on quality," Goldman shared, adding that planning often leads to a chaotic filming process.

To deal with these difficulties, the studio in Leavesden, UK, has taken unconventional steps – a special school has been built directly on the sets so that the young actors can continue their education during the long-term production. The project is planned to last about a decade, with each season covering one of the books.

Dominic McLaughlin, Alistair Stout, and Arabella Stanton will appear in the lead roles of the new Harry, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. The first episode of the new fantasy saga is scheduled to premiere on December 25, 2026.
