Global Exchanges: Wheat and Corn Prices Noted a Rise During the Week
Global exchanges registered a rise in the prices of major agricultural crops over the past week. According to the analysis of experts from the Sofia Commodity Exchange (SCE), the dynamics of wheat and corn are dictated by various factors, including weather conditions and stock levels.
An increase in futures is observed for bread wheat. On the Chicago exchange, prices moved in the range of 233 – 249 dollars per ton, while on the European exchange "Euronext," they reached between 245 and 264 dollars per ton.
Corn also demonstrated a stable week with an upward trend. The main reasons for the price increase are more limited stocks from July, as well as forecasts for hotter and drier weather in the "corn belt" region. On the Chicago exchange, corn prices varied between 172 and 176 dollars per ton, and on "Euronext" – between 273 and 281 dollars per ton.
An interesting dynamic process is also observed in the sugar market. Prices of raw and white sugar are influenced by monsoon processes in India, the El Niño effect, and fluctuations in crude oil prices. Although record production is expected for the 2025/26 period, forecasts indicate a potential deficit in 2026/27 due to climate change in Brazil.
At the local level, the Sofia Commodity Exchange maintains stable offers for feed wheat (starting price 180 euros per ton) and bread wheat (190 euros per ton). In the industrial commodities segment, prices for fuels and natural gas remain within current levels.
