From Vampire to Farmer: Ian Somerhalder Reveals the Shocking Reason for His Hollywood Withdrawal

Ian Somerhalder, the actor who won the hearts of millions with his role as Damon Salvatore in 'The Vampire Diaries,' has finally revealed the details behind one of the most surprising decisions in modern pop culture – his withdrawal from the Hollywood spotlight.

After years of international fame, Somerhalder made the decision to leave the industry in 2019. Today, he shares that deep disappointment with his work on the Netflix sci-fi series 'V Wars' was the turning point in his life.

According to the actor, the project was a source of immense stress and injustice. He recounts how he invested not only time but also huge personal funds to save the series after the studio refused additional funding. "We were filming 10 or 12 hours of material for about six days, which landed me directly in the hospital due to exhaustion," he shared on the 'Haley on the Go' podcast.

Somerhalder claims that despite the success of 'V Wars,' the project was terminated by Netflix not because of ratings, but due to internal struggles between executive producers. His decision was swift and final. He chose to leave the glitz and glamour and move with his wife, Nikki Reed, to a farm outside Los Angeles. Today, the 42-year-old actor focuses on his family and business ventures related to ecology and a healthy lifestyle. While saying that acting is behind him, he does not rule out the possibility of returning if he finds a project that deserves his time.
