Escalation in Yemen: Strike on Sana'a Airport Aimed at Blocking Iranian Flight
The conflict in Yemen has entered a new phase of escalation after the internationally recognized government, supported by Saudi Arabia, announced that airstrikes were carried out on the airport in the capital, Sana'a.
According to official reports, the aim of the attack was to prevent an Iranian plane from landing at the airport, which is currently under the control of pro-Iranian Houthi rebels. The information was reported by Agence France-Presse.
The Houthi military spokesperson, Yahya Saria, reacted immediately, describing the strikes as "Saudi aggression." He warned that such actions would not go unanswered and promised "retribution." Saria further added that this incident marks the official end of the de-escalation phase in the confrontation between his organization and the Riyadh-led coalition.
As a reminder, the capital Sana'a remains under Houthi rule, while the internationally recognized government operates from the southern city of Aden, supported by Gulf states. Growing tension around logistical and military routes in the region is heightening fears of a broader regional conflict.
