Ecological Messages Through the Lens: National Photo Exhibition 'Repair the Earth' Opened in Ruse

The space around the large tent at 'Svoboda' Square in Ruse became the stage for the national photography exhibition 'Repair the Earth'. The initiative is organized by HUMANA People to People Bulgaria in partnership with the 'Dedal' School of Arts and with the support of the Ruse Municipality.

Themes and Messages

The exposition brings together 25 distinctive photographs created by professionals and amateurs between the ages of 17 and 71. The shots document ecological challenges such as climate change, pollution, water scarcity, forest fires, loss of biodiversity, and the consequences of overconsumption. Alongside the problems, the exhibition also presents examples of volunteerism and personal responsibility toward natural resources.

Among the highlights of the exhibition are the conceptual works of Evelina Berova from the 'Mother Earth' series, examining the balance between modern comfort and the price nature pays. Other significant contributions include the photograph by Dimitar Kostov (56, Sofia) titled 'The Beauties and the Trash', taken in Kenya, as well as his second photograph 'Waterlessness in the Land of Water', which shows the dried-up Studena reservoir.

The theme of water scarcity is presented by Yoana Marinova (32, Sladka Voda village) with the shot 'Blooming', taken at the bottom of the Tsonevo reservoir, serving as a metaphor for the connection between humans and parched nature. Other important works include the photo cycle 'Contradiction' by Slavyan Kostov (51, Haskovo), dedicated to desertification; the 'Anthropocene' project by Vanyo Dimitrov (39, Sofia), whose message is: 'Man as a product of his own time - packaged and with a market price'; and the shot by Atanas Atanasov (45, Varna), showing the submerged church in Zrebechko reservoir as a symbol of the disappearance of settlements, cultural memory, and spiritual spaces.

Institutional Support

The opening was attended by the Deputy Mayor of Ruse Borislav Rachev, Member of Parliament Emil Denkov, Director of 'Ecology and Green Urban Environment' Yoana Valeva, Commercial Director of HUMANA Bulgaria Elza Nedyalkova, and 'Corporate Social Responsibility' Manager Elena Kuleva.

Deputy Mayor Borislav Rachev emphasized that photography is a powerful tool for increasing public sensitivity to ecological problems. He added that such initiatives serve as a reminder that change begins with personal responsibility and the daily choices of every individual. During the ceremony, the Deputy Mayor presented a congratulatory address from the Mayor of Ruse Municipality Pencho Milkov to the Managing Director of 'HUMANA People to People' Karin Wallin.

Context of the Initiative

The national exhibition will be available to visitors in Ruse until August 31. It is part of a series of activities by HUMANA People to People Bulgaria aimed at sustainable development, responsible consumption, and the reuse of resources.
