Bulgaria and Greece plan to expand their bilateral partnership in the areas of environmental protection, transboundary water management, and the fight against climate change. The topic was discussed during a meeting between the Minister of Environment and Water Rositsa Karamfilova and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hellenic Republic to Bulgaria Alexios Liberopoulos.

Priorities in Environmental Policy

During the conversation, Minister Karamfilova presented the main priorities of the Bulgarian government, which include the transition to a circular and resource-efficient economy, improving air quality, biodiversity conservation, and investments in modern environmental infrastructure. Special emphasis was placed on climate change adaptation and sustainable water resource management.

Water Basin Management and Transboundary Procedures

Both sides confirmed the importance of long-term cooperation in transboundary water management. It was emphasized that extreme climate events require long-term and science-based solutions.

During the meeting, transboundary environmental impact assessment procedures were also discussed, as well as opportunities for deeper interaction within the framework of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.
