The film world is mourning the news of the passing of Chuck Russell – the director whose vision helped Jim Carrey establish himself as one of the biggest stars in world cinema. Russell passed away at the age of 74 at his home in San Diego, according to American media.

The exact causes of his death have not yet been officially confirmed, but according to TMZ sources, firefighters responded to a report of loss of consciousness at his home on Wednesday.

Russell's directing career was marked by his ability to create unforgettable images and discover new talents. His film debut was in 1987 with 'A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors'. However, his true triumph came in 1994 with the film 'The Mask'. This production not only turned Jim Carrey into a global sensation but was also the first major film role for Cameron Diaz. The film was nominated for an Oscar for visual effects.

Jim Carrey shared in an emotional statement that it was a privilege to work with Russell, describing him as a person who creates an inspiring and relaxed atmosphere on set. "I consider 'The Mask' to be one of the jewels of my creative life. Thank you, Chuck," the actor wrote.

Among Russell's important projects are the action hits 'Eraser' starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and 'The Scorpion King', which was the first leading role for Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson. After a short hiatus, he returned with productions such as 'Face/Off' with John Travolta, and his last work was the film 'Witchboard', which premiered in 2024.
