Bulgaria aims for status as a regional center for high-tech investment
Bulgaria has the ambition to become a key regional hub for high-tech investment and a secure destination for capital. This goal was presented by the Deputy Minister of Economy, Investment, and Industry, Mihaela Karadimova, during the annual diplomatic corps conference.
According to the Deputy Minister, a priority for the government is attracting high-value-added projects. The list of strategic sectors includes innovation, microelectronics, artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, automotive manufacturing, as well as energy, biotechnology, and the defense industry.
To improve the business environment, the Ministry of Economy, Investment, and Industry (MEII) is implementing several mechanisms:
- Reducing bureaucracy: Nearly 300 measures have been identified to alleviate the administrative burden.
- Coordination: A Coordination Council for Investment Promotion has been established under the Council of Ministers to ensure faster procedures and personalized service for large investors.
- Legislation: A draft law on public-private partnership has been developed.
An important emphasis in the strategy is "economic diplomacy." Karadimova emphasized that in the face of global competition, Bulgaria cannot rely on passivity but must actively seek strategic partners through diplomatic missions and trade and economic services abroad. The goal is to transform international trust in the country into real results – increased exports, higher productivity, and new high-tech manufacturing.
