Ukraine extends martial law and general mobilization: What comes next?

Ukraine is officially extending the regime of martial law and general mobilization in the country. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed the corresponding law, the Ukrainian parliament (Verkhovna Rada) reported.

According to the decisions of the legislative body, the new provisions will enter into force on August 2 and will be valid until October 31, 2026. This decision is the result of a vote in parliament, where support was almost unanimous: 313 deputies voted to extend martial law, and 311 supported the continuation of general mobilization.

Notably, this is the 20th renewal of these measures since the beginning of the full-scale war. Martial law and general mobilization were initially declared on February 24, 2022, immediately following the start of the Russian aggression.

The extension of these measures is key to maintaining the country's military potential and defending its territorial integrity amidst ongoing hostilities.
