Sporting successes often transcend the boundaries of the stadium, turning into a powerful economic stimulus. According to a new analysis by iBanFirst, Spain's second football world title could bring the country between 2 and 4 billion euros in additional economic activity within six months.

The study, published in the "Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics," highlights that countries that have won a World Cup typically report an acceleration in real GDP growth of about 0.48 percentage points over the following two quarters. For an economy with a scale of nearly 1.7 trillion euros, this is a significant "boost" that could mitigate the expected slowdown in growth rates in Spain in 2027.

Two Main Drivers of Growth: Exports and Tourism

According to experts, the main beneficiary will be the export sector. Winning on the global stage serves as a free marketing campaign for Spanish brands across various industries – from fashion and the food industry to renewable energy and digital services. Even a minimal 0.5% increase in external sales would generate over 3 billion euros in additional revenue.

The second key factor is tourism. Spain already possesses a developed infrastructure and a high international reputation, making it ready to transform global attention into real revenue. Even a modest 1% increase in international tourist spending is expected to add over 1 billion euros to the country's annual revenue.

Impact on Domestic Consumption

In addition to macroeconomic indicators, the national team's success could boost consumer confidence. An increase in spending in sectors such as restaurants, entertainment, and domestic travel would support employment and tax revenues. Although the effect is primarily short-term, it reinforces Spain's position as a leading nation, which strengthens its international attractiveness in the long term.
