The main stock indices of the leading European exchanges ended today's trading session with an increase, as several markets reached new records. The positive momentum was supported by growth on Wall Street and strong results in the mineral resource mining sector.

Records in Germany and France

The German DAX index in Frankfurt recorded a rise of 0.77%, reaching 26,202.35 points. This is a new historical high for the index, after the day before it crossed the 26,000-point threshold for the first time. Parallel to this, the MDAX index, which covers mid-cap companies, rose by 0.15% to 32,559.91 points.

The Parisian CAC 40 also achieved a new record, adding 0.61% and reaching 8,666.63 points. With this, the index surpassed its previous peak of 8,620.93 points, recorded on February 26, 2026.

Market trends and the energy sector

The pan-European STOXX600 index rose by 0.73% to 656.86 points. The main driver of the market was mining company stocks, which compensated for the decline in the energy sector. Quotes for energy producers fell due to the drop in oil prices, which is attributed to expectations of reduced tension in the Middle East and the potential opening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Within the energy sector, BP shares recorded a decline of 4.91%, and Shell's by 2.47%. Nevertheless, BP reported a second-quarter profit of $5.73 billion, which is more than twice last year's value and exceeded analysts' expectations.

The London Stock Exchange and the global context

On the London Stock Exchange, the FTSE100 index added 0.2% and finished the session at the level of 10,879.38 points. The overall market sentiment in Europe was supported by the positive trend in the American markets, where leading indices are also heading towards new records.
