Sharp Increase in Lyme Disease Cases in Bulgaria: 70 Infected in July Alone

A worrying trend regarding Lyme disease cases is being observed in Bulgaria. According to the latest data from the National Center for Public Health and Analysis (NCPHA), 24 new cases of the disease were registered in the last week alone.

This figure is twice as high compared to the same period last month, bringing the total number of infected people in July to 70. The geographical distribution of cases shows that the highest activity is observed in Sofia and Gabrovo. Infections have also been registered in a number of other regions, including Stara Zagora, Sliven, Blagoevgrad, Vidin, Kyustendil, Lovech, Pernik, and Pleven.

In contrast to the increase in Lyme disease, a significant decline in chickenpox cases is being observed. So far in July, 475 cases have been registered, which is almost three times less compared to mid-June, when the number of sick people reached over 1,200 in just two weeks.

Regarding viral hepatitis, the situation remains stable. By the third week of July, just over 70 cases have been registered, which is similar to the indicators for the same period in June.
