A Russian attack against a merchant ship in the Black Sea has resulted in casualties, the Ukrainian Navy reported. According to information cited by Agence France-Presse, the Turkish bulk carrier was hit by three cruise missiles while leaving the combat zone.

The result of the attack is the death of five people. At the same time, the fate of another five crew members has not yet been established. Eight wounded or injured persons have been urgently evacuated to a hospital in Odesa.

On the Russian side, the TASS agency cites the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, which claims that the strike was carried out with a "Geran-4 Siker" type unmanned aerial vehicle. According to the Russian agency, the target—a bulk carrier type ship on the outer roadstead of the port of Odesa—was successfully hit.

The incident is yet another example of the increasing danger in the Black Sea basin, where commercial traffic, including grain transport, is under constant risk from military actions.
