Overload in the Infectious Disease Department in Blagoevgrad: Cases of Intestinal Infections and Lyme Disease are Increasing
Summer temperatures bring not only heat but also a serious challenge to health institutions in Southwest Bulgaria. The infectious disease department of the Regional Hospital in Blagoevgrad is already completely full, the hospital reports.
According to Dr. Rumen Novoselski, the head of the department, the main problem at the moment is viral intestinal infections. High temperatures during the summer months contribute to the rapid spread of these diseases. As a primary preventive measure, doctors insist on strict hygiene and regular hand washing.
In addition to intestinal disorders, medical staff are also reporting a growing number of cases of other seasonal threats. Although there is currently only one patient with Lyme disease in the department, Dr. Novoselski warns that cases of this disease, as well as infectious mononucleosis, are increasing.
Experts urge citizens not to ignore symptoms and to seek timely medical assistance to avoid complications, especially with infections transmitted by ticks or systemic viral diseases.
