OpenAI is expanding ChatGPT's functionalities by allowing users to integrate their health data directly into standard conversations with the chatbot. Until now, access to medical information was limited to the specialized "ChatGPT Health" section, but the new solution aims to make things easier for users by removing the need to switch between different interfaces.

User habits and possibilities

According to OpenAI data, about 70% of health queries were asked in regular chat sessions. The new functionality allows the algorithm to process information from medical records, Apple Health, and other supported health apps, provided that the user gives explicit consent.

Through this integration, users can ask questions related to lab results, dietary regimens, allergies, medication intake, or changes in general health status. The goal of the tool is to help people better interpret their own information and prepare for consultations with medical specialists.

Security and availability

OpenAI emphasizes that ChatGPT Health is not intended for making medical diagnoses and cannot replace professional medical assistance. The company states that data sharing is entirely voluntary, and users retain full control over the information they provide. Additional encryption mechanisms have been implemented to protect personal data.

The feature is now available to all users in the USA — both for those with free and paid subscriptions — via the web version and the iOS app. Currently, there is no official information regarding when such functionality will be implemented in the European Union.
