Legendary biathlete Galina Kukleva, Olympic champion from Nagano, has passed away
The sporting world is in mourning following the news of the death of Olympic biathlon champion Galina Kukleva. She passed away at the age of 53, announced Sergey Averyanov, head of the press service of the Russian Biathlon Union.
Although the official cause of death has not been announced, it is shared that it was the result of an oncological disease. Kukleva remains in the history of winter sports as one of the most successful athletes in the discipline.
Her greatest triumph was at the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, where she won the gold medal in the 7.5 km sprint. At the same Games, she also added a silver medal in the relay. Kukleva's list of achievements is impressive: she is a three-time world champion and holds multiple medals from European championships, as well as silver and bronze medals from world championships.
Throughout her career, she was honored with the highest sporting titles and state awards, establishing herself as a true legend of biathlon.
