Impact assessment procedure launched for the 'Black Sea' highway
The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process for the large-scale 'Black Sea' motorway project has been officially triggered. The Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) submitted the relevant request to the Ministry of Environment and Water (MoEW) on June 22.
The information was provided by the Minister of Environment and Water, Rositsa Karamfilova, during parliamentary control. According to the Minister, a quality check of the submitted report is currently underway, with a deadline of 30 days for this activity.
"The final EIA decision is expected within 45 days after the conclusion of the public consultations," Karamfilova explained.
It is important to note that, at this moment, there is still no final confirmed route for the future highway. The Minister emphasized that while the MoEW is responsible for the environmental assessment, issues related to the execution itself and securing funding for the project fall under the competence of the RIA as the contracting authority.
