IMF Releases $690 Million to Ukraine: Economic Stability Under Pressure from War
The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has given the "green light" for the immediate disbursement of approximately $690 million to Ukraine. The decision follows the latest review of the country's financing program, the institution reported.
Currently, Ukraine is utilizing a credit line totaling $8.1 billion. With this latest tranche, the total amount received to date reaches approximately $2.2 billion. Although the IMF describes the program's implementation as "largely satisfactory," experts note serious challenges facing the country's economy.
According to the Fund's analysis, Ukraine's macroeconomic stability is being maintained despite the ongoing military conflict, but economic prospects are worsening. The main factors for this are massive Russian attacks against critical infrastructure, as well as global economic effects from tensions in the Middle East.
The official statement specifies that although quantitative indicators were met by the end of March, the target for maintaining net international foreign exchange reserves by the end of June was not achieved. A slowdown in the implementation of some key structural reforms was also noted.
To avoid falling completely behind schedule, Ukrainian authorities and IMF experts have already agreed on an updated reform plan and corrective measures. IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva emphasized that a priority for Kyiv must remain prudent fiscal policy and strengthening the resilience of the financial sector.
