Humanitarian Mission at Tsarnogorski Monastery: Ukrainian Children from Sumy Find Refuge in Bulgaria
The Tsarnogorski Monastery "Saints Cosmas and Damian" has once again become a refuge for children from the Ukrainian region of Sumy. This is the monastery's second such initiative, aimed at providing safety and spiritual support to young children who have fled the harsh conditions in frontline zones.
The visit is organized jointly with the Embassy of Ukraine in Bulgaria. The group consists of students from various settlements in the Sumy region, who are spending time at the monastery, forming new friendships and finding peace in the prayerful atmosphere. Although many of them still experience anxiety when hearing noise in the sky, the conditions at the monastery allow them to disconnect from the daily terror.
The project is made possible thanks to the joint efforts of Archimandrite Nikanor, monastery helpers, and organizations such as the "Access to Rights" Foundation (FAR). The support includes not only accommodation but also providing funds for travel and cultural experiences in Sofia and Plovdiv.
For the children, the stay is also an opportunity for socialization – they participate in the daily life of the monastery, including food preparation, which becomes a joyful activity and a way to learn about Bulgarian traditions. This cause is a continuation of the charitable activities that began last year, when the monastery welcomed the first group of children from Sumy.
