Fake doctor scheme in Sliven: 84-year-old woman gave 10 thousand euros to scammers

Officers from the Sliven Ministry of Interior uncovered a criminal scheme through which an elderly woman was deceived into handing over a significant sum of money. The incident, which is already subject to pre-trial proceedings, affects an 84-year-old resident of the municipality.

According to official information, the victim received a phone call from a man who introduced himself as a doctor. The scammer used the classic method of psychological pressure, claiming that a close relative of the woman needed urgent and expensive surgery.

Under the influence of the situation, the elderly woman handed over a sum of 10,000 euros to unknown persons. However, the rapid reaction of the officers from the "Combating Criminality" sector to the Regional Department of the Ministry of Interior in Sliven led to quick results. As a result of the search operations, two people—a man and a woman—have been detained.

Part of the stolen funds have already been recovered and handed over to the authorities. Work on the case continues as all circumstances surrounding the crime are being clarified.
