Experts: The Radov Government Budget is of the Past, and the Desislava Atanasova Case is a Test for Institutions
Leading experts in political science and sociology commented on current political processes, including the adoption of the state budget and the scandal surrounding Desislava Atanasova. Prof. Antoaneta Hristova and Dr. Petko Petkov expressed the opinion that the current budget is a continuation of the policies of the past government, not of the current administration.
According to Prof. Hristova, although there is a tendency for proactive actions on the part of President Radov and the government regarding the deal with 'Botash', it is still difficult to rearrange. She commented that the budget currently reflects the interests of the previous administration, while the new government has not yet succeeded in imposing its vision.
Dr. Petko Petkov from 'Gallup International Balkan' assessed that the deal with 'Botash' is successful only for elite layers, but not for the ordinary Bulgarian citizen. He pointed out the lack of clear communication from political leaders regarding the benefits of this deal for the country.
In connection with the presidential elections, Prof. Hristova pointed out that Iliyana Yotova is the most logical candidate from 'Progressive Bulgaria', while the right has a minimal possible move. Dr. Petkov noted that Nikolay Nenchev is the only prominent leader, but emphasized the need for a balance between the personal space of public figures and the public right to information.
The case of Desislava Atanasova was defined as a serious test for Bulgarian institutions. Experts expect Europe to be notified and it is predicted that resignations will be requested if the investigations do not show the necessary transparency and impartiality.
