Restoring the water pipeline between the municipalities of Veliko Tarnovo and Sevlievo through the village of Novo Selo is one of the key solutions to address the water shortage in the two municipalities. This is the opinion of specialists presented during a working meeting with hydro-engineers and representatives of the water and sanitation sector.

Infrastructure solutions and new sources

The meeting, organized by Regional Governor Marin Bogomilov, also included Member of Parliament Prof. Yanka Tyankova. Among the main ideas discussed is the completion of the 'Byala' reservoir in the Sevlievo municipality, which, if developed, has the potential to supply settlements in the Gabrovo and Veliko Tarnovo regions.

Another proposal to reduce the load on the public water supply network is the mandatory use of private water sources by all large enterprises.

Water quality and resource management

Experts proposed conducting water categorization through samples from the water and sanitation sector and an official ruling by the Basin Directorate regarding their suitability. This process will allow for determining whether water from the 'Alexander Stamboliyski' reservoir can be used for drinking purposes.

The meeting agenda also includes the need to prepare an up-to-date register of boreholes—a similar document existed until the year 2000. The full utilization of mineral waters is also being discussed, along with the urgent need for attention to settlements such as the village of Resen, which have been seriously affected by the lack of water despite the presence of abandoned wells.

Long-term perspectives

Prof. Yanka Tyankova called on the attending specialists to submit their proposals in writing. Regional Governor Marin Bogomilov and Prof. Tyankova committed to delivering these expert proposals to Prime Minister Rumen Radev, the relevant ministries, and the parliamentary commission.
