Exhibition of Bulgaria's largest 11th-12th century gold coin treasure discovered in Plovdiv
The Gornoslav Treasure on public display
The Regional Archaeological Museum – Plovdiv presents a new exhibition, the central event of which is the display of all 786 gold coins from the Gornoslav Treasure. The find is the largest gold coin treasure in Bulgaria, dating from the 11th–12th centuries, and is being presented in its entirety for the first time.
Exhibition concept
The project 'Human Passions: The Price of Desire' is a joint initiative of the museum and the 'Aletheia' Foundation. The exhibition aims to offer a different perspective on archaeology, combining authentic finds with poetry, music, and textual messages. The focus is placed on eternal human aspirations such as love, power, and wealth, seeking a parallel between ancient and medieval choices and modern human nature.
Visitor information
The exhibition is located in Hall No. 9 of the Regional Archaeological Museum – Plovdiv. Visitors can view the exhibition until November 30, 2026.
