European Commission outlines social model priorities: focus on AI and job quality

The European Commission has published a new document assessing the progress of the European Pillar of Social Rights since its adoption in 2017 and defining strategic priorities for the future of social policy in the Union.

The main goal is for the European social model to maintain its ability to provide fair working conditions and social protection without compromising the EU's economic competitiveness. According to the Commission's analysis, three main areas require immediate action.

First, large-scale consultations with social partners are beginning to support people facing difficulties in finding work. The aim is to develop policies to combat poverty and social exclusion and to facilitate easier access to the labor market.

Second, a new high-level expert group is to be established. Its task will be to study how the development of artificial intelligence is changing the labor market and what the risks and opportunities are for future employment in Europe.

Third, the emphasis falls on equal opportunities. Planned measures include support for small and medium-sized enterprises in implementing the Pay Transparency Directive, as well as the preparation of the new EU Youth Strategy after 2027.

Later this year, the European Commission is expected to present a 'Quality Jobs Act'. This document will introduce new indicators for assessing job quality, which will serve as a benchmark for achieving the EU's 2030 goals in the fields of employment and skills development.
