End of an Era: Anthony Taylor Announces Retirement from Refereeing

Anthony Taylor, one of the most notable names in English refereeing over the last two decades, has officially announced his decision to end his career at the elite level. The 47-year-old referee is concluding his long journey following the match between Portugal and Spain at the World Cup in the USA.

Taylor's statistics are impressive – he has officiated a total of 831 matches, 668 of which were in professional football in England. During his 16 seasons in the Premier League, he established himself as a trusted referee for major events, including FA Cup, League Cup, and Community Shield finals.

His international career has also been at an exceptionally high level. As a member of the FIFA list for 14 years, Taylor has officiated matches at two World Cups, two European Championships, and multiple finals of prestigious club tournaments, including the UEFA Super Cup and the Europa League final.

In his official statement, Taylor emphasized that it has been a huge privilege to work at such a level, but admitted that the intense pressure and constant scrutiny are factors prompting him toward change. He expressed gratitude to his assistants, colleagues, and family for their support over the years.
