Emma Raducanu to miss US Open due to stress fracture
British tennis player Emma Raducanu will not participate in the US Open due to a stress fracture in her right calf. The decision was made after consultations with her medical team, after the injury appeared during the grass season, which also forced her to withdraw from Wimbledon.
Timeline of Health Issues
The calf injury follows a series of difficulties for the 23-year-old athlete over the past year. The nature of the injury is serious, noting that Raducanu had returned to the court wearing a protective boot. In early February, she spent two and a half months without active play due to a post-viral illness, which seriously affected her preparation period.
After her return during the clay season, she hired coach Andrew Richardson – the specialist who led Raducanu to triumph at the US Open five years ago, although their training time was highly limited. Although she achieved one of the best results of her career in June, reaching the final at Queen's Club, this effort led to the current physical injury.
Future of her Career
Currently, Emma Raducanu is ranked 49th in the world rankings, but she will likely drop from this position. Due to her health condition, she has not been included in the Great Britain team for the Billie Jean King Cup finals, which will take place at the end of September. There are doubts regarding her participation in tournaments in 2026.
At the moment, the Kent-based tennis player is spending a break in Switzerland. On the social network Instagram, she shared an optimistic message, describing her stay as "the best reset so far."
