Volkswagen Group is preparing a fundamental change in its strategy, which will lead to a significant reduction in the vehicles offered. According to information, the group plans to reduce its model range by up to 50%, while simultaneously drastically limiting the number of available versions and configurations by up to 75%.

The goal of this restructuring is to direct resources and investments toward the most profitable segments and the newest technologies. Although the official list of models to be removed has not yet been publicly announced, the German publication Bild points to several potentially endangered names.

At-Risk Models Among the Main Brands

For the Volkswagen brand, models such as the Jetta and Taos are expected to be discontinued after the end of their current life cycle, without receiving new generations. The discontinuation of the Jetta would be particularly symbolic, given the model's long history.

Porsche seems likely to undergo some of the most serious cuts. The future of the electric Taycan after its current generation is in question, as is the gasoline-powered Cayenne Coupe. There are also rumors of abandoning plans for gasoline variants of the Boxster and Cayman sports models.

At Audi, the focus falls on coupe-style SUV models – the Q5 Sportback and the electric Q6 e-tron Sportback. Although they will remain on the market for some time, it is unlikely they will be replaced by new generations once the current ones are phased out.

In the more affordable car segment, Skoda could lose its key hatchback, the Fabia, which would be a major change for the Czech brand. For its part, the Cupra brand may part ways with the electric Raval model after only one generation.

These steps highlight the group's entry into a new era, where the focus is on cost optimization and the transition to new technological standards, even if this means abandoning iconic models with a long history.
