Chinese Robot Qiyuan T1: Autonomous Transformation from Quadruped to Humanoid
The Chinese technology company PrimeBOT presented its new product – Qiyuan T1 – at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC 2026) in Shanghai. This is the world's first personal robot designed to transform autonomously to adapt to various environmental conditions.
The uniqueness of Qiyuan T1 lies in its ability to switch between two main modes of movement without interrupting operation. When outdoors or on uneven terrain (such as grass, gravel, or stairs), the robot adopts a quadruped mechanism configuration. This allows it to move through places inaccessible to standard wheeled robots and to accompany its user across slopes and obstacles.
In indoor spaces, such as homes or offices, Qiyuan T1 transforms into a humanoid wheeled robot. In this mode, it is designed to move quietly and perform maneuvers in place, which is ideal for navigating narrow corridors and environments with furniture.
The technology behind the transformation relies on a shared platform of sensors, actuators, and software, allowing for shape changes without the need to replace components. For human safety, PrimeBOT has integrated a force control system that allows the robot to physically interact with people – for example, by holding their hand or touching them lightly.
In addition to being a home assistant, Qiyuan T1 is also positioned as an intelligent video recording device. It features a rotating camera, a display, a set of microphones for voice control, and software integration with artificial intelligence, allowing it to automatically follow a subject or perform tasks such as carrying small objects.
At the moment, PrimeBOT has not announced an official price or an exact date for the start of mass production of the robot.
