Bulgarian doctor wins prestigious European award in the field of neurology and artificial intelligence

A Bulgarian medical specialist has achieved significant international recognition in the field of neurology. Dr. Vivian Tsvetkova, working in the Clinic of Nervous Diseases at UMBALSM "N. I. Pirogov", has been awarded the prestigious European diploma after successfully passing the European Board Examination in Neurology.

The exam, organized by the European Board of Neurology and the European Academy of Neurology (EAN), is designed to ensure that doctors from Europe meet a unified, high standard of knowledge and clinical reasoning. The procedure includes rigorous written and oral examinations covering clinical cases and critical analysis.

In her development, Dr. Tsvetkova focused on one of the most topical subjects in modern medicine – "Ethical issues in the use of AI in neurology". She examined how artificial intelligence can be a useful tool in the interpretation of imaging studies and remote patient monitoring, emphasizing that technologies should support, rather than replace, human judgment.

"New technologies assist in early diagnosis, more accurate assessment of the disease, and personalization of treatment. They serve as an auxiliary tool in clinical decision-making, without replacing the role of the neurologist in the diagnostic and therapeutic process," shared Dr. Tsvetkova.

She also emphasized that the implementation of AI requires strict protection of personal data, transparency in decision-making, and minimization of the risk of errors to ensure patient safety.

The head of the clinic, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maria Dimitrova, expressed pride in her colleague's achievement, noting that Dr. Tsvetkova has been part of the "Pirogov" team for five years and is now an officially certified specialist neurologist.
