Bulgaria and Qatar Seek New Paths for Cooperation in Tourism

Bulgaria and Qatar are initiating a deeper partnership in the tourism sector. The topic of expanding cooperation and attracting more visitors from the Persian Gulf region was central to a meeting between the Minister of Tourism, Dr. Ilin Dimitrov, and the Ambassador of Qatar to Bulgaria, Fahad Al-Mushairi.

One of the leading ideas for promoting Bulgaria among Qatari citizens is the use of digital opinion leaders. The Minister proposed organizing familiarization trips for Qatari influencers and vloggers to present the country's natural, cultural, and SPA opportunities to their audience.

To stimulate business, the organization of B2B meetings and the inclusion of Qatari tour operators in international tourism exhibitions in Bulgaria are being discussed. Ambassador Al-Mushairi emphasized Bulgaria's potential as a year-round tourism destination—from summer holidays to winter and cultural tourism—while also noting the need for more information materials in Arabic.

In addition to economic cooperation, the focus is also on education. The Minister presented an initiative to create an international alliance of universities in the field of tourism, the official establishment of which is planned for September 27 – World Tourism Day. The new network will aim for student and faculty exchanges and the sharing of professional practices.

During the meeting, the renewal of a memorandum of cooperation between the two countries was also proposed. Developing ties with the wealthy markets in the Persian Gulf is a strategic priority for the Bulgarian Ministry, as tourists from this region are characterized by high purchasing power and an interest in wellness and cultural experiences.
