Bulgaria acts strictly in the national interest and is not a member of the 'Coalition of the Willing', says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Bulgarian foreign policy is aimed solely at protecting national interests, emphasized Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova. In an interview with Nova TV, the minister explained that the country consistently follows the lines of the European Union and NATO, allowing no discrepancies within these key frameworks.

One of the central points in the statement was the question of Bulgaria's participation in the so-called 'Coalition of the Willing'. According to Petrova, Bulgaria has not undertaken any commitments to participate in this format. She also clarified the country's position following the visit to Kyiv, stating that the documents and declarations signed there in informal formats do not have an international legal character and do not impose mandatory actions.

According to the minister, support for Ukraine can be implemented through various paths – through aid, economic sanctions, or diplomacy. For Bulgaria, the main focus remains active diplomatic activity and the country's role in ensuring Ukraine's energy security.

As an example of successful balancing of interests, Petrova pointed to the negotiations regarding the EU's 21st sanctions package. She noted that thanks to clearly argued Bulgarian proposals, the country managed to maintain an equal place in the union and support the package while simultaneously defending its own priorities.
