The Presidents of Latvia and Lithuania are warning of an increasing risk of Russian sabotage operations in the region. During a joint press conference in Vilnius, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs stated that information received from NATO member state agencies confirms attempts to undermine national security.

Although Rinkēvičs did not specify particular countries or targets, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda added more specific information. According to him, Lithuania possesses data that Russia is planning attacks against critical infrastructure, though the exact timing and locations remain unknown.

In response to these threats, Baltic authorities are already strengthening security measures around energy and transport facilities in the countries. These actions are a precautionary measure aimed at minimizing potential damage from possible incidents.

What this means for Bulgaria: The increase in sabotage activity in NATO's Eastern Flank countries is a signal of heightened regional instability. For Bulgaria, this means a need for stricter control over critical infrastructure and increased attention to cybersecurity and the physical protection of energy networks, as the risks of hybrid threats are shared across the entire alliance.
