App Store App Boom Due to AI: The 'vibecoding' Phenomenon Doubles New Projects, but Users Aren't Satisfied
Artificial intelligence is fundamentally changing the way software is created, introducing a new phenomenon known as 'vibecoding.' This approach allows users to develop applications without mastering complex programming languages, focusing primarily on formulating ideas and tasks for AI tools. The result is a mass influx of new authors into the digital world.
According to data from the analytical company Sensor Tower, the App Store is experiencing an unprecedented surge. In the first half of this year, 560,000 new applications were added – almost as many as the entire previous year. Despite this massive influx of new content, user demand remains stable. The total number of downloads has increased by only a modest 2%, reaching 17.5 billion.
This trend creates new opportunities for people who have not previously been involved in software development. Examples like Marco Perez from Chicago, who used generative tools to create the Stampa app and achieved rapid success, demonstrate the potential of this new era. While some see this as an opportunity for professional realization, others use 'vibecoding' as a creative hobby for creating niche applications.
However, the mass influx of new applications calls into question the quality of software in the stores. There are concerns that platforms like the App Store could be flooded with 'digital ballast' – low-quality or even dangerous applications. Apple representatives assure that despite the pressure on the approval process, every application created with the help of AI will undergo the same strict security and privacy standards as traditional software.
