The political debate after Iliana Yotova's presidential announcement: What her support will look like

The announcement of Iliana Yotova as a candidate for President of Bulgaria three months before the upcoming elections triggered an immediate wave of political reactions. Yotova, who has been performing the functions of Vice President until now, stated that she will be nominated by an initiative committee but remains open to cooperation with political parties.

In the first minutes following Yotova's decision, BSP leader Krum Zarkov expressed support for her candidacy. Yotova herself emphasized that her political biography is closely linked to the BSP, but added that she is ready to accept support from various political forces while simultaneously listening to the voice of the citizens.

Reactions from other major political forces, however, are more cautious. Rumen Radev's party has not yet made a final decision, with an official position expected following internal forums. On behalf of "Progressive Bulgaria," MP Ivan Lalov described the candidacy as "not bad," but specified that the party's decision is still pending.

Meanwhile, the political field on the right is focused on the idea of unification. GERB has once again raised the question of the need for a common candidate from the right-wing forces to avoid the dilution of votes. It is expected that in the coming weeks, Yotova will present a more detailed plan for her campaign, including her candidate for Vice President.
